Education

‘Directing and teaching share the same soul’
After years in academia, in the classroom, and on set, I feel that teaching and directing stem from the same thing: guiding people in their development, stimulating imagination, and shaping meaning together.

‘Conscious and unconscious’

As a director, I constantly work with these two systems of thought. In the creative process, I rely on the unconscious intuition, feeling, and rhythm. That’s where imagination arises. Then, conscious thought kicks in: analyzing, structuring, justifying choices. In education, I try to instill the same awareness in students: that learning and creating consist not only of thinking, but also of feeling. By recognizing and utilizing both systems, they grow in their own way of seeing, creating, and understanding. Emotion moves, reason directs!
